In the town of Montegiordano, in the province of Cosenza, the “Tenuta del Castello” winery dominates a spectacular natural setting, between the blue of the Ionian Sea and the colors of the fertile hills covered with pine trees and Mediterranean scrub. In an area rich in ancient settlements, according to tradition also frequented by the philosopher Pythagoras in the Great Greek era, stands the castle of the Pignone del Carretto Princes, built in the seventeenth century on the ruins of the Monastery of Sant’Anania, which was destroyed by the Saracens around to 1150.
Inhabited until the end of the 1940s, the castle for a long time represented the center of the agricultural activities of the district, hosting the peasants who from the village went to work the land together with their families. Today, it still dominates the winery and the whole surrounding countryside.
The care of the vineyards, which cover 12 hectares, is the main activity of “Tenuta del Castello”, which develops around a large cellar, equipped with all the most modern equipment, while respecting a very ancient tradition. The result is a selected and high-quality wine, made with the collaboration of the oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, President of the Association of Oenologists.
Nature offers us all the nuances, tones, aromas, contrasts, perfumes. Then, the genius is knowing how to combine everything perfectly. D. Foulon
